Update to California 2024 Wage Theft Notice

The California Department of Industrial Relations released an updated 2024 model wage theft notice. It went into effect on January 1, 2024.

Employers must provide a written notice (in the language generally used by the employer to communicate employment-related information to the employee) that outlines all relevant information about the employer, wages, paid sick leave, and workers’ compensation.

As of January 1, the notice also must include the existence of a federal or state emergency/disaster declaration that may affect their health and safety and applies to the county (or counties) where the employee will be employed. The notice must be issued within 30 days before the employee’s first day of employment. Any changes must be made in writing within seven calendar days of the change unless:

  • The changes are outlined in another writing that is required by law within seven days of the change
  • The changes are reflected on a timely wage statement
