Subminimum Wage Being Eliminated in Nevada

Assembly Bill 259 phases out the subminimum wage in Nevada, which is the rate that can be paid to employees with disabilities working in the state. The goal is to eliminate its use by January 1, 2028.

The initial phase-out began January 1, 2025, restricting providers of day training services and jobs from entering into contracts or arrangements that pay a subminimum wage. Those already paying subminimum wage must submit a plan annually to:

  • Transition those employees to the state rate, and
  • Support covered workers in obtaining integrated or supported employment or community activities that relate to the employee’s goals
