New legislations in New York impact state workers’ compensation laws and anti-bias notice inclusion in employee handbooks.
Under Assembly Bill 5745, the New York State Workers’ Compensation Law has been amended to allow all eligible workers to file for workers’ compensation due to significant work-related stress that caused mental injury. It went into effect January 1, 2025.
The Workers’ Compensation Board will maintain responsibility for determining whether the work activity has a causal relationship with the worker’s mental injury.
Details around the New York Reproductive Health Bias Law also must be included in employee handbooks. Employers must notify employees of their rights under this bill.
